First Impressions

Unboxing the PASS QUEST chainring immediately revealed its high-quality craftsmanship. The silver anodized finish gives it a premium, elegant look that stands out compared to the usual black chainrings. The precise CNC machining and clean edges speak to excellent production quality—it’s evident that every detail has been carefully executed. The chainring also came with matching silver chainring bolts, which adds an extra touch of class and ensures a cohesive look on the bike. Despite its sturdy feel, the chainring is impressively light, making it a perfect fit for performance-oriented builds. Compared to an original Shimano chainring, this one actually feels even more refined and premium.

Ride Impressions

After about 400 km of riding, the chainring has proven itself to be a top performer. I previously used Shimano Ultegra 12-speed chainrings, and I can confidently say that the PASS QUEST chainring is just as quiet—if not even quieter—than Shimano’s offerings. The chain runs smoothly and silently, even under power. With the 3mm offset, I’ve achieved a perfectly straight chainline on my most-used 5th and 6th cogs, especially at my usual LIT ride speed between 29 – 32 km/h. This results in an efficient drivetrain that feels solid and responsive. The 8.5mm tall teeth, combined with a chainguide, have kept the chain secure at all times—no drops, even on rough or bumpy roads. Even without a chainguide there were no chain drop. Power transfer is direct and immediate, making climbs and sprints feel crisp and efficient.

Installation, Design, and Value for Money

Installing the PASS QUEST chainring was straightforward. It fits perfectly on my Shimano Ultegra Di2 crankset without any compatibility issues, and the included silver chainring bolts add a touch of class while ensuring a secure fit. The silver anodized finish looks elegant and stands out nicely compared to standard black chainrings. The precise CNC machining not only provides a refined aesthetic but also ensures a smooth and consistent interface with the chain.

Importantly, this chainring is also fully compatible with popular Chinese spider-based power meters like the Magene PES P505/P515, the XCadey spider, the Sigeyi spider, and most other Chinese spider power meter setups. This makes it a particularly versatile choice for cyclists looking to upgrade or fine-tune their drivetrain while retaining the flexibility of their preferred power meter.

In terms of value for money, the chainring might initially seem pricey, but its premium feel, exceptional build quality, and smooth, quiet operation justify the investment. It’s a compelling alternative to more expensive big-brand chainrings, delivering performance that easily rivals or even surpasses Shimano’s own offerings.
